The film reimagines the Spider-Man villain as an antihero and follows Sergei Kravinoff’s transformation into Kraven. Kraven the Hunter gets a March 2025 release date for Netflix
Kraven the Hunter will be available for streaming on Netflix in the United States starting March 13, 2025. The film, released by Columbia Pictures on December 13, 2024, is part of Sony’s Spider-Man Universe and stars Aaron Taylor-Johnson as Sergei Kravinoff, also known as Kraven.
Directed by J.C. Chandor, the film reimagines Kraven as a vigilante with animalistic abilities rather than a traditional big-game hunter. The supporting cast includes Ariana DeBose as Calypso, Fred Hechinger as Chameleon, Alessandro Nivola as Rhino, Christopher Abbott as the Foreigner, and Russell Crowe as Nikolai Kravinoff. The plot follows Kraven as he seeks revenge on his crime-lord father and faces off against Rhino and other foes.
The film received negative reviews from critics, who criticized its screenplay, visual effects, and pacing. On Rotten Tomatoes, it holds a 16% approval rating, and it scored 35 out of 100 on Metacritic. Audiences also gave it a lukewarm response, with a CinemaScore rating of “C.”
Kraven the Hunter underperformed at the box office as well, grossing $62 million worldwide against a production budget estimated between $110–130 million. Sony originally scheduled Kraven the Hunter for a 2023 release but delayed it multiple times before its December 2024 debut. Reports indicate that Sony is putting its Spider-Man Universe on hold, making Kraven the Hunter the last planned installment after Madame Web and Venom: The Last Dance.
