NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WSMV) – A pair of Tennessee lawmakers are working to make Nashville hot chicken an official state food. Meanwhile, another pair of lawmakers are working to make Nashville the hot chicken capital of the state.
In the past, hot slaw and Memphis barbecue were up for discussion to become official foods of the state of Tennessee. Both of those were passed and signed by Gov. Bill Lee.
Now, Rep. Caleb Hemmer (D-Nashville) and Sen. Charlane Oliver (D-Nashville) are working to add Nashville hot chicken to the list of official state foods. HB 0567 simply aims to designate Nashville hot chicken as an official state food.
More lawmakers, Rep. Vincent Dixie (D-Nashville) and Sen. Jeff Yarbro (D-Nashville) are working to designate Music City as the hot chicken capital of Tennessee.
“As introduced, designates Nashville as the hot chicken capital of this state,” the bill reads.
