1. PRESIDENT’S DAY WEEKEND: City of Marco Island has some reminders
The city of Marco Island is sharing some reminders ahead of President’s Day weekend.
Trash: Beaches are crowded on holiday weekends. We ask beachgoers to put trash in the receptacles or pack it up and take it with you. Do not leave personal items or trash on the beach. Noise: Marco Island’s noise ordinance will be enforced and there are no warnings given after 10 p.m. Any concerns related to noise should be reported to the Marco Island Police Department at 239-389-5050.
Parking: Beach parking is available at Tigertail Beach and South Beach. Vehicles must not block the road to wait for parking spaces. While parking in the swale is legal, some residential streets are marked indicating that parking in the swales is prohibited. There is no legal street parking available outside of the Caxambas Park parking lot. Vehicles that are parked illegally may be ticketed and are subject to being towed.
Beaches: Dogs, bikes, glass, and fires are not allowed on the beach.
Boating traffic: Residents and visitors should expect heavy boating traffic, and all boaters must observe no-wake zones. Violations of the speed limits for boats and jet skis or operating a motorized vessel in an unauthorized area may incur a fine.
2. FHP: Fatal Collier County crash believed caused by medical episode
A 65-year-old Miami man died in an Alligator Alley crash Monday. Authorities are not ruling out it could have been caused by a medical episode.
The wreck happened just after 7:15 a.m., Monday, along Alligator Alley, at the 97-mile marker, south of Naples, according to a Florida Highway Patrol incident report.
Troopers were dispatched to the scene of the single-vehicle crash of a Toyota Corolla.
In the crash, troopers said, a Toyota Corolla traveled off the road, possibly caused by a medical episode. After the car veered off the road, it entered the median and struck a dirt pile related to a construction site.
